As part of its exhibition Hybridization_ from June 22 to August 31, Mémoire de l'Avenir launches a call for applications to artists whose work questions the world and its changes through the concept of "hybrid".
Using photography, fine arts, digital arts, sculptural, performing arts or any other medium… send us your projects!
Basically, hybridization speaks of the otherness and of difference, of diversity or multiplicity. The meeting between the two schemes; of a self which recognizes itself as such and of another, which becomes a mirror, engenders the transformation of each of its components: mutual adaptation, but also, for the whole, all together, it is a new way of to live, a multiplication of potential evolution of becoming.
Hybridization is a natural phenomenon. Historically, species - animals, plants, have met, fertilized, to give birth to variants: hybrids. Thus the biodiversity, which has constantly migrated and have been re-formed, by adapting to changes, including geographical and climatic alterations, aiming to survive.
Hybridization is also an artificial phenomenon: many plant species are the result of human’s manual or genetic intervention. Human beings have always hybridized: since prehistoric times, through wars, exiles, colonisations, or migrations, people have mixed between origins and genes, and therefore also diversified between their identities and / or their cultures as between their dialects.
Finally, the man also palliates the failures and deficiencies of his own body by hybridizing with other elements - prosthesis, extension, or even machines. The tool has been a revolutionary invention for homo erectus, just as recently, computers and other artificial intelligence devices increase the possibilities of existence…
