From May 6 to June 16, 2023, Mémoire de l'Avenir invites 30 visual artists and video artists from the Israeli contemporary scene for the exhibition entitled FOLDED ART, proposed by Doron Polak, co-curator and long-time collaborator, in partnership with the Ben Ami gallery in Tel Aviv, (Daniela Aira and Hagit Ben Ami). The idea for the project was inspired by American artists who could not exhibit their work for political reasons in the 1990s. To get around the censorship, the artists painted on wrappers that they folded into envelopes and sent to the West.
Invited to participate in the collective exhibition, each artist was required to produce a work respecting two unique criteria related to the material constraint: the work had to have the exact dimensions of 180cmx60cm but also be perfectly foldable, so that it could be slipped into an envelope and sent by post.
